4 vs 2 with counter attack

Set Up:

For this exercise you will need one half of a regular pitch, where a “4 vs 2” will be played. 10 meter in front of the halfway line, set up a pole goal (Width of penalty area). Place enough balls behind both goals. Divide the group into teams of 4 and line up one goalkeeper between the posts. Two players of the defending team will wait as substitutes next to the goal.

Execution:

This exercise consists of a regular “4 vs 2” game, with both teams having the opportunity to score a goal. The attacking team (green) will start the game from the pole goal and will try to make use of the majority situation, through a quick passing game. The game will restart in front of the pole goal, with the attacking team maintaining ball possession after a goal or a missed shot. If the two defenders can intercept the ball from the attacking team, they will have the opportunity to score a counter attack goal by dribbling across the goalline of the pole goal. After two minutes the two waiting defenders will come into the game for the other two.

Playing time: Two 4 minute games will be played with each team being the attacking team once.

1 vs 1 – On pole goal

website image

Set Up:

For this exercise you need to set up two pole goals (Width 10m) on a 20m x 15m field. Divide the group into groups of two (1 versus 1) – a maximum of 5 groups per field is advised. One player of each group will be assigned to the first team (Orange) and the other player to the second team (Blue). Each pair of players needs a ball.

Execution:

Each pair is playig an open field “1 on 1”. The oppsoing goal can be attacked over the entire width – the ball has to be dribbled across the goal line. However there is a time limit of 20 seconds to a single attack. After scoring a goal, losing the ball or expiration of the time, the attack is over. The defensive players will turn into offensive, as soon as all 5 attacking players are done. Several pairs can play at the same time, which will improve players orientation on the pitch.

Start a team competition! – Which team is leading after 5 rounds, orange or blue?

Warm Up Game - Tic Tac Toe

Set Up:

Set up 3 x 3 fields – use cones or big hoops. Set up two starting stations approx. 10m in front of field. Build two teams of 1-4 players per set up – Each team lines up at one of the stations. Provide 3 matching colored markers – (bib, cones, balls, etc.)

Execution:

This exercise follows almost the same rules as the classic Tic Tac Toe: To win the game a team must place their 3 markers in a row – Diagonal, horizontal or vertical.

On the Coach’s signal the first player of each team starts running towards the field and places his first marker in one of the 9 areas. After marking the first area the player runs back to tab the next waiting player, which then starts running towards the field – Same execution for third player.

After all 3 markers have been placed in the field, one marker at a time can now be replaced by each following player, until one team wins – 3 markers in a row.

Play several rounds as a competition – Best of 5 or 7

Without passing and dribbling there is no scoring

Scoring and winning is the ultimate goal of any football game. Whether a volley shot, bicycle kick, header or instep drive. Any technique can be improved by practicing it during your soccer training sessions. However, without an effective passing game or a perfect dribbling, there would not even be a chance to score. Therefore, coaches should always combine several skills in their session plans. Shots on the goal are perfect for engaging in small-field games or passing drills. To make sure that your next session plan is created even faster, there are a lot of other drill examples and variations on our other exercise pages.
